“True compassion comes not only from being able to feel another person’s pain, but also being moved to help relieve it.” – Francisca, Caregiver at Azalea Homecare

Francisca, Azalea Homecare’s latest employee of the month, has been with our team for four years. For as long as she can remember, she has always enjoyed helping people.

“When I came to the states twelve years ago, I was raising young children. For some time, I struggled to find a job I felt truly passionate about until I began working as a CNA.” Francisca believes that her cultural background influences her love for her work. “Coming from Nigeria, it is more common that family and community will help one another. Here, I don’t always find this to be true. When I work with a client, I want them to be so happy that I came. I approach with empathy, treat clients as if they are part of my community—part of my family.”

Her key advice for caregivers—both professional and those that care for loved ones: It is important to put yourself in their shoes and approach caregiving with compassion.

“It can be a really rewarding profession. You get this satisfaction and fulfillment that you’re doing something important for someone else. You always get to meet to new people from all kinds of backgrounds and cultures, and in this way, you also have an opportunity to see life from so many different perspectives.”

She also thinks it is important to work somewhere where you are valued. “I enjoy working with Azalea because I have a great supervisor that makes sure I am comfortable in every working environment.”

Francisca is a mother to three children, ages 5, 9 and 13. In her free time, Francisca actually finds it soothing to clean. She also enjoys documentaries and biopics.
