A Few Holiday Meal Classics, Made for Everyone You Love

The holidays are a for gathering with the ones we love. They are also a time to indulge.

However, with so many of us cutting back on sodium, gluten, or even animal products altogether, when it comes to the classic dinner spreads for holidays like Thanksgiving, it can be challenging to make a menu that is friendly for everyone. But that doesn’t mean we should chuck out the turkey and the stuffing just yet. With a few modifications, you can make delicious dishes that the whole family can enjoy.

Here are a few classic example recipes, with some suggestions on how to modify for different dietary restrictions or needs.

Classic Butter Herb Dressing

Classic Ingredients

  • 12 cups of breadcrumbs preferably toasted or stale
    Hint: Did you know that hamburger buns are great for this?

  • 1 cup unsalted butter

  • 2 large, sweet onions, diced

  • 2 cups diced celery

  • 6 garlic tbsp of minced garlic

  • kosher salt and pepper

  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh sage

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

  • 2 tablespoons of fresh chopped thyme

  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary

  • 2 1/2 cups of turkey or chicken stock

  • 2 large eggs

  • a mixture of the above fresh herbs for topping

Baked Macaroni & Cheese

Classic Ingredients

  • 1 lb. dried elbow pasta

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk

  • 2 1/2 cups half and half

  • 4 cups grated medium sharp cheddar cheese divided (measured after grating)

  • 2 cups grated Gruyere cheese divided (measured after grating)

  • 1/4 tsp. Paprika

Classic Ingredients 

  • 1 (1 pound) sweet potato

  • ½ cup butter, softened

  • 1 cup white sugar

  • ½ cup milk

  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust
